CITIES AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Cities and Climate Change workshop March 03-05, 2011

With the Forum for Creative Minds II – Cities and Climate Change, the Goethe-Institut is shifting the central focus to urban space, to elucidate the societal and cultural dimension with special emphasis on the urban context. Cornelia Redeker gave an impulse lecture entitled “Cities in Anticipation” where she gave insights into the remediation processes between landscape, infrastructure and cities with a focus on rivers.

  FUTURE RHINE 2010

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 18th “Future Rhine 2010”,
World Conference Center Bonn, Nov 17-19, 2010

Organized by the regionale2010, the international conference “Future Rhine 2010” adressed spatial perspectives for the Rhine corridor. Cornelia Redeker gave an impulse lecture to the panel “The Rhine as an urban landscape” adressing the question if the different programs claiming ground in the flood plain can actually be accomodated. The lecture was entitled “D+NL / Border Negotiations between River and City” and illustrated current Dutch and German adaptation and mitigation project examples.

  READING THE FLOOD PLAIN

OCTOBER 21-22, 2010 KUNSTHALLE MAINZ ZOLLHAFEN

The Zollhafen in Mainz is statistically flooded by the Rhine every 100 years. In a two day workshop, researchers and students from TU Delft, TU Munich, EIV Paris and Université Paris Est brainstormed on how this relatively rare, but possibly severe flood event can become readable in the open spaces of the Zollhafen. From the design of objects such as a water gauge at the quay heads or the charging stations for the mooring ships, to the evacuation route and the open spaces - how can spatial elements create awareness for a future flood event, specifically during the often long periods between floods?

  FLOOD ADAPTED BUILDING AND PLANNING GUIDELINE

The German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA) is working on a guideline for Flood Adapted Building and Planning. The guidelines developed by the DWA are based on voluntary work and expert exchange. Cornelia Redeker has been asked to contribute as an architect and urban planner. The guidelines will be published in the course of 2011.

  FLOODS AND URBANISATION: FRIEND OR ENEMY?
